Dental Care Services for Pets

Dental care is a part of your pet’s health care that shouldn’t be neglected. It’s important your pet gets the proper care to ensure their oral and dental hygiene are taken care of. Aside from having a dental routine at home, you should be scheduling regular dental visits for your pet. If your pet is due for a visit, please contact us at 403.934.3311 to make an appointment.

Why are dental visits important?

Your pet’s dental health can impact their overall health. Preventable conditions like periodontal (gum) disease can cause unnecessary pain and discomfort for your furry friend. By having regular checkups, just like when you go to the dentist, we’re able to remove any tartar (combination of bacteria and plaque buildup) that could cause gum and tooth damage. As a part of their wellness checks, we can assess their dental health and create a course of action if necessary.

What happens during the visit?

During your pet’s wellness examination, they’re thoroughly checked for proper bite, signs of jaw injury, abscesses, fractured teeth, enamel damage, tartar and calculus buildup. Before your pet undergoes any dental treatments, like teeth cleanings, your furry friend is placed under general anesthesia and given intravenous fluids. To ensure your pet’s safety, a precaution we take before they go under general anesthesia is doing a physical exam and analyzing blood samples. This helps us determine how your pet’s body will react to this medicine.

How do you ensure my pet is safe during a dental procedure?

During any dental procedure, a veterinarian and veterinary technician attend to your pet to provide the highest standard of care. Your pet’s blood pressure, oxygen, CO2 levels, temperature and heart rate are continuously monitored. Also, we prioritize your pet’s comfort by keeping them warm as well as administer analgesic (pain relieving) and nerve block medications. X-rays used to assess your pet’s oral health also have limited exposure to radiation.
